About the author

Meet Joy

Joy keeps notes on what she observes, sets down the context around it, and leaves out what she cannot confirm.

How entries begin

Notes taken close to the moment

Entries start as plain field notes: what was seen, what was read, and what happened in the order it happened. Writing from these notes keeps each detail tied to its source rather than to memory alone.

Context is added only where it helps a reader understand the note. Where something is unknown, the entry says so instead of filling the gap with a guess.

How I write

Three guiding rules

01

Observe closely

Describe what is in front of you before deciding what it means. Specific details carry more weight than general impressions.

02

State context clearly

Give enough background for a detail to make sense, and no more. A reader should know where a note came from and why it matters.

03

Avoid invented claims

Report only what has been seen, checked, or clearly marked as uncertain. An honest gap is better than a confident guess.
